Interview former Champion Sylvain Geboers
During the Everts & Friends event 2013 in Genk, we had the opportunity to interview former Champion Sylvain Geboers. This all in preparation concerning the reunion Motocross of Aces on 20th and 21th of September 2014. The Belgian Sylvain Geboers came for the first time at the start during the Motocross of Aces in 1967 on a Lindström. Later on he rode for CZ and at the end of 1969 Geboers signed a lucrative contract for the Japanese Factory Suzuki to start again in the 250cc World Championship. Sylvain Geboers signed just before his rival and countryman Joël Robert and they became teammates again. The Swede Olle Pettersson had developed this Suzuki model for several years and it was extremely competitive now. In 1972 Sylvain Geboers nearly won the Motocross of Aces on the Suzuki, but had the bad luck that day in the last lap of the second heat. He fell back from the winning position to a sixth place with engine problems. Instead of a win overall, he became third. Anyhow Sylvain Geboers was winner of the Spring Trophy, an initiative between the two Motorclubs from Genk and St. Anthonis, divided over two individual races. The idea to organize a reunion concerning the Motocross of Aces dates back to August 2012. Sylvain Geboers has been closely involved in the organization and has given us a lot of device. The first contacts are already from the International Motocross on the Keiheuvel in Balen on the 15th of August 2012, the birth place from Sylvain Geboers. Sylvain Geboers has good memories to the famous circuit the Hoef and confirms that this openingsrace has a high prestige in the past. Sylvain Geboers has entrusted us to be present during the Reunion Motocross of Aces in the weekend from 20th and 21th of September 2014.
